Cheat sheet

Everything on one page. It prints cleanly — keep a copy next to your notebook while the system settles in.

Write what you hear. Phonetic consonants; silent letters drop; doubles collapse. know → no, phone → fon, edge → ej.

Short e: never written. less → ls, send → snd.

Interior short vowels: drop (or mark, below). problem → prblm.

Start/end vowels: keep. open → opn, ago → ago.

Long vowels & diphthongs: full letters. need → ned, out → ot.

Lowercase joined cursive; no entry strokes, minimal loops; dot/cross/mark after the word.

h — dash above the line

th — dash across t

ch — dash through c

sh — dash through s

m — one long stroke

-ing — short curve at word end

st — capital S

trans- — detached capital T

a — apostrophe-like tick · bat → bt+tick

short i — dot · bill → bl+dot

o — small slanted dash · top → tp+dash

u / oo — comma-like mark · book → bk+comma

Exact shapes vary by textbook edition — pick a set and stay consistent.

Phrasing: join brief forms — of the → ot, we are → wr, will you → lu.

Numbers: always figures. Abbreviations you already know keep working (mon, dept, ok).
